Treatment
By Connor Eastep
According to the University of Stanford Graduate School of Business, “social innovation is the process of developing and deploying effective solutions to challenging and often systemic social and environmental issues in support of social progress” (Stanford Business). A strategy of social innovation that is going to help mental health treatment become more successful would be bringing the awareness of mental health to light for society to see. The World Health Organization (WHO) has started a social innovation program called the Mental Health Program. According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), this program “promotes, coordinates, and implements technical cooperation to strengthen national capacities to develop policies, plans, programs, and services that contribute to mental well- being, prevent mental disorders, emphasize recovery, and promote persons with mental health to exercise their rights” (PAHO). This is going to help mental health and the treatment of mental health because it is going to create policies all over the nation that are going to be primarily used to help treat mental health and mental disorders. A possible proposal for a new strategy that would address mental health treatment could be to introduce programs and support groups throughout colleges in the country. Over the years, more and more college students are becoming victims of mental health. In addition to other forms of treatment, students could take advantage of support groups and programs that target mental health on campuses. Throughout these programs, “participants work with a sponsor to complete 12 steps, and the sponsor is able to help the person with other issues they may have” (PsychGuides). These programs and groups could be completely free to the students and would be a great tool to help them get the help they need.
