Men's Mental Health
By Joseph Grifonetti

In regards to men's mental health, it is important to compare certain and statistics and studies done in the United States to the highly populated country of Japan. A tri-sector engagement approach is when three organizations from the public, private, and non governmental organization work together to form a mega community with a common goal of solving a domestic or global issue. I could not find any specific tri- sector mega communities that address mental health for me in Japan but there is definitely potential for a proposal that could work very well. Starting with the non-governmental organization, The World Health Organization (WHO), which is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Japans government has also taken steps to raise awareness for men’s mental health over the last decades. In their school systems they implemented Gradual approach, Resilience, In a school setting, and Prepare scaffoldings (GRIP) which is a program in schools that focus on mental health at a young age. In addition to those two, from the private sector, would be the Movember movement, which has a mass international following as it’s main goal is to grow out facial hard with the attempt to help raise awareness to the mass number of suicide and depression that is seen in men not just in the United State, but all over the world. The three of these would form a strong mega community, due to the fact that they all have large followings, are globally recognized and have the same goal to help end the stigma behind men’s mental health awareness.
